Local transport from the airport

Taxis pick up from directly outside the Arrivals terminal and are reasonably priced:

  • Radio Taxis – Visit Website or Call: 02380 666666
  • Cab My Ride – Visit Website or Call: 02380 555555
  • Uber is also available, usually this is a cheap, convenient option.

By walking left out of the airport & crossing the road to the train station, then going over the overpass there is a taxi rank and easy Uber pick-up point which is cheaper as the taxis do not have to pay the airport charges.

Southampton General Hospital Info

The General Hospital has several cafes and coffee shops, info can be found here. It also has a pharmacy in the main entrance, free Wifi, mobile phone charging stations, travel information and a free phone for taxi hire. The taxi rank is outside the main entrance.

The smaller Princess Anne hospital has a restaurant within the main entrance. Info here.

Around the Coxford Road area

On-road parking is payable, there are hourly parking charges. (Currently one hour is £1.60, as of Feb 2025.)

Buses – turn left out of the apartment onto Coxford Road to find the General Hospital bus stop A, where routes 7,17 & 19 stop.

5 mins walk – Shirley Warren Post Office, 13-15 Warren Ave, Southampton SO16 6AS, open 8:30am-6pm Mon-Fri, 9-12:30pm Sat.

5 mins walk – Hollybrook Cemetery, a bit unusual but if you’re craving a bit of quiet green space you will find the grave of the comedian Benny Hill here!

A 25 minute walk will take you to the heart of the city, Southampton Common, which has 365 acres of woodland, lakes and parkland, a large playground with ice cream kiosk, Hawthorns urban wildlife centre and Cowherds pub.

A 30 minute walk will bring you to Oaklands Community Swimming Pool.

25 mins walk – Kings Church Centre on 414 Coxford Road offers Sunday Services and activities such a board game nights.

5 mins walk – small M&S food hall within the General Hospital, open 7am-9pm weekdays, 7am-8pm weekends

10 mins walk – Londis convenience store: 42 Dale Rd, Southampton SO16 6QL, open 6:0am-9pm Mon-Sat, 7am-9pm Sundays

12 mins walk – Tesco Express: Lordswood Road, SP16 6LN, open 6am-11pm every day

15 mins walk – The Range (stocks Iceland products) & larger M&S food hall, Winchester Road, SO16 5YA

25 mins walk – Large Sainsburys: Lordshill District Centre, Superstore 1, Southampton SO16 8HY, open 7am-10pm Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm Sunday

The Giddy Kipper fish & chippie is a 7 min walk away on 11 Warren Avenue.

Halfords on Winchester road sell car seats which may be cheaper than hiring them if it is for a long period. Facebook marketplace also has many booster seats for sale as a cheaper option.

Things to do around the city:

Imagination Corner is a role play centre suitable for children up to 6 years.

West Quay has free activities throughout the year such as light shows and theatre performances.

For older children through to adults, Ninja Warrior UK is a brilliant way to burn off some energy.

Flip Out Southampton is a large indoor trampoline and adventure park with soft play, suitable for all ages.

Go Ape treetops adventure is suitable for children over 1 metre, as long as they don’t mind heights! This is an outdoor activity so check the weather, it’s located within Itchen Valley Country Park which has a lovely café, 2 playgrounds and a nature trail.
