The Story

Frankie’s Den is located right next door to Aggie’s Burrow and was fully renovated in preparation for its opening to Guernsey families in September 2023. Ken and Linda Acott generously donated the property to the PPBF after learning more about the charity’s work during a local fundraising event in 2022. Upon hearing that Aggie’s Burrow and Isaac’s Pad were in constant use, it was clear that a third property would be invaluable. Following approximately 6 months of full redecoration and refurbishment, it was decided that the flat would be called ‘Frankie’s Den’. This was in memory of Ken and Linda’s late family dog, who was described as loving babies and children of all ages.

In 2024, the children’s bedroom in Frankie’s Den was named ‘Matthew’s Hideaway’ in memory of Matthew Girard, who sadly lost his battle to cancer at the age of only 12, in 2020. Matthew loved LEGO, so the bedroom has been decorated with this in mind. It also features artwork designed by a young Guernsey student which was commissioned to be brought to life in LEGO thanks to Resolution IT and PlainSail. The ‘Buddy Boat’ is designed to offer safe passage to Guernsey families heading across to Southampton, making it a special addition for those staying in the room.

The Future

To keep all three of the PPBF’s flats up and running for Guernsey families with a premature baby or critically ill child, around £66,000 needs to be raised every year. These funds cover the running, maintenance and management of the properties, so that parents and their loved ones can stay completely free of charge. The PPBF receives no government funding, so it relies solely on the generosity of individuals and businesses. Each of the flats is around 100 steps from the entrance from Southampton Hospital and there is no other service like this available to islanders. They are private, fully equipped and lovingly decorated, offering a peaceful space during difficult times. If you, or anyone you know, would like to support the PPBF’s compassionate housing, you can Buy-A-Night or make a one-off donation here. All contributions are hugely appreciated.
